One10 Men’s Counseling

Anger counseling for men in Port Orange

Anger can come on fast, before you’ve had time to think, and afterward you may feel guilty about what you said or did. In counseling, we’ll work on what’s underneath it and how you respond.

Sessions are $125 for 50 minutes, by appointment. I’m a male counselor who works with men, teenage boys, and young adults.

If you’re in crisis right now, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time.

The Gap

It’s a pocket card for the few seconds between when anger starts and when you react, plus a seven-day log you fill out each morning.

I’ll email you the PDF, plus a few short notes over the next three weeks. You can unsubscribe at any time, and I’ll never share your email.

What’s in the guide

On the card, you write down the first sign in your body that you’re getting angry and what you’ll say before you step away for 20 minutes. In the log, you write down what happened the day before, so you can see what keeps coming up right before you get angry.

You don’t need to book a session to use it.

Why men wait to get help

“It passes”

Once things calm down, calling a counselor can feel like an overreaction. If something happened recently, I’d suggest calling while it’s still fresh in your mind.

“It’s just talking”

Counseling with me is practical. Between sessions, you’ll have something specific to work on.

“I’ve already tried it”

If you’ve seen a counselor before and it didn’t help, tell me what didn’t work so we can try something different.

“I don’t want to open something up”

You might worry that talking about your anger will bring up older, harder things. If it does, we’ll go at a pace that works for you.

How I work

What’s underneath your anger

Anger often comes with other feelings, like stress, hurt, or fear, and we’ll talk about what those are for you.

What to do before you react

We’ll look at what leads up to your anger and practice what you can do when you first feel it coming on.

Talking about what happened

You can talk about it here without shame, and I’ll be honest with you about what I see.

Keeping track of progress

Each time we meet, I’ll ask how it went with what you planned to try.

If a court or an employer requires counseling

Please tell me when you call, before you book a session.

I offer individual counseling. I don’t offer anger management classes or batterers’ intervention programs. In Florida, the Department of Children and Families certifies batterers’ intervention programs. If a court order or an employer requires either kind of program, counseling with me won’t meet that requirement.

If you need one of those programs, tell me what the requirement says, and I’ll point you to someone who offers it.

What happens in your first session

When you get to 3959 South Nova Road, come in through the two doors in the center of the second building. You’ll see chairs straight ahead. You don’t need to check in with anyone. Have a seat, and I’ll come out to get you.

I’ll ask what happened most recently and the time before that, so we can start to see what sets your anger off.

I’ll also ask what you’ve already tried, such as exercising, drinking less, counting to 10, or walking out of the room.

Near the end, I’ll tell you what I noticed, and we’ll talk about where to go from here.

Common questions

Will you tell me I’m the problem?

No. I won’t label you or lecture you. We’ll look at what happened, including your part in it, and work on what you can do differently.

What does it cost?

A 50-minute session is $125. I don’t bill insurance, so you pay me directly at each session by card, cash, or check.

Do you work with teenagers?

Yes. For anyone under 18, a parent or legal guardian needs to sign a consent form and fill out the child intake form before the first session.

What if I have to cancel?

Please give me at least 24 hours’ notice. If you cancel with less notice than that, you’ll be charged the full session fee.

Is this Christian counseling?

Following Jesus shapes how I see people and how I counsel. Every man is welcome here, whatever he believes.
